Change and Decay

Change seems to be our society’s current obsession.

Some change is positive.  Monday (January 19th) our family listened to Martin Luther King’s “I have a Dream” speech.  In 1963 many Americans needed to change their racist attitudes.  The change King dreamed of was positive change.

Now, however, our society seems determined to embrace changes that call good evil and evil good–as if merely swapping labels changed reality.  We abandon solid foundations in favor of foundations of sand.  Storms will come.  Why abandon a solid foundation just because we have to endure a storm?  Changing foundations will not change the weather.

I think obsession with change is closely related to our society’s fascination with “carnival freaks.” Read the rest of this entry »

We have work to do but we need not fear

November 5th, 2008 bradley Posted in politics, religion No Comments »

From The One Pure Defense, by President Boyd K. Packer:

“The gathering together upon the land of Zion,” the Lord said, “and upon her stakes, may be for a defense, and for a refuge from the storm, and from wrath when it shall be poured out without mixture upon the whole earth” (D&C 115:6).

They need not fear. We need not fear. Fear is the opposite of faith.

I have been in the councils of the Church and seen many things. I have seen disappointment and shock and concern. Never once have I seen any fear.

Our youth can look forward with hope for a happy life. They shall marry and raise families in the Church and teach their little ones what you have taught them. They, in turn, will teach their children and their grandchildren.

In January 2007 I got an email, one of those that get forwarded to the whole world, and while it rightly praised our soldiers it also included many disturbing comments including–

And I’m supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was “desecrated” when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?
